80+ First Person Stories from Bi+ Western Pennsylvania Neighbors in Honor of #BiVisibilityDay 2021

Bisexual Pittsburgh
Some of the contributors to #AMPLIFY whom identify as bisexual

Today is Bi Visibility Day – there are hundreds of celebrations and events planned across the globe. Pennsylvania is the first state to have a Governor issue a proclamation – thank you, Governor Tom Wolf (proclamation at the end of this post.)

One of my favorite blog projects has been the creation of the #AMPLIFY archive using first person Q&A’s from across Western Pennsylvania. While everything ground to a halt during the pandemic, the archive boasts nearly 320 stories.  In honor of Bi Visibility Day, I’ve compiled a list of the #AMPLIFY contributions from folx who identify under the bi umbrella. These contributions date back to 2015.

Bi fox are the ones most likely to use pseudonyms or total anonymity in this project, something that the respondents can explain better than me. It is a sobering reality about a seldom discussed element of discrimination and bias, even within the LGBTQIA+ community. It is also a testament to the courage of their willingness to speak to those biases as well as celebrate their own lives and identities.

I hope you will take some time to read these posts and reflect on the experiences of your bisexual neighbors today and other days. This list is not exhaustive so feel free to read the larger archive. To read more about AMPLIFY, please visit the homepage for the project.

I hope you see some piece of your story reflected and find comfort & joy in that visibility. You deserve to be loved and supported. You deserve to be seen and heard.
