A 21-year-old Black trans woman was shot to death on August 17, 2026 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her name was Jhené Audrict.

The Crime

According to police she was found with a bullet wound to the head in a yard in the 6100 block of Minnesota Avenue. Jhené had been reported missing by her boyfriend and mother. Her body was slumped between an abandoned house and an abandoned church. She had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Courtesty of FirstAlert4.

After an autopsy and protests from the family,the investigation into Jhené’s death is now a homicide case.

According to her mother, Jhené was legally blind. She cannot see without her glasses. They were not found with her body.

Honoring Jhené

She was a college student living in St. Louis, Missouri. Jhené was affectionately known as ‘Sweet Pea.’

She had lived-in Hawaii for 18 months to experience life on her own. Jhené was legally blind. She was in a relationship about which she had expressed some concerns, according to her mother.

We do not have many other details about her, but will update as they become available.

Jhené Audrict is the 31th person whose death we’ve memorialized in 2026. (see below)

She is the 25th trans woman, the 19th trans person of color, and the 14th Black trans woman. Jhené is one of ten victims 21 or younger.

In 2025, Kelsey Elem was killed. In 2024, Kita Bee. In 2023, Amber Minor . In 2022, Dee Dee Kandii Redd  was killed. In. 2021, we lost Dominique Lucious. Then in 2020, both Nina Pop  and Aerrion Burnett died. In 2019, Brooklyn Lindsey.No reported deaths in 2018, but two reported in 2017: Kiwi Herring and Ally Steinfeld.

That’s nearly one reported murder annually for a decade. Is Missourie safe for train folx?

Jhené is at least the fourth person with a disability on this list. That intersection in one I don’t give nearly enough attention to. But it is very important. Stripping Jhené of her glasses in any situation would be terrible. There’s an impression that she may not have been able to see her killer, that her sight – her vision – was limited to her eyesight alone.

Rest in power, Jhené. You brought so much delight and love to this world. I am hopeful your advocates will push for justice and accountability. It was just brave of you to move to Hawaii and shows how you moved about the world.
