She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

Trib Letter to the Editor

Trib Letter to the Editor

It has been awhile.  Thankfully, Kris Saunders of Squirrel Hill has brought back the homobigot rant to the editorial page of the Tribune Review.  Kris is of the mindset that the pedophilia scandal in the Catholic Church is a result of rampant tolerance of homosexuality. But it is odd that the Trib, which has called […]

Star Struck?

This morning, Ledcat and I toddled down to Millvale to try out their incarnation of Pamela's Diner.  I expected to be thrilled and amazed by yummy strawberry pancakes, but turns out it took a chair to slay me. Michelle Obama's chair. Well, she doesn't *own* the chair.  She sat in it. When she stopped by […]

I find myself longing for Guy Costa …

I find myself longing for Guy Costa …

As reported in today's Rich Lord article, the attitude of Public Works Director Robert Kaczorowski pretty much exemplifies the worst type of entitlement so many public <ahem> servants exhibit. The piece is on the official report on how to make things better if we have another snowmageddon.  Mr. Kaczorowski didn't even read it, but is quick […]

PA Rep Tim Solobay – defends himself from Harrisburg “trash”

I was pleased that Representative Tim Solobay used quick thinking to defend himself in an attempted mugging in Harrisburg.  I'm glad some of the suspects are in custody and no one was injured.  It is a good story of an individual using the resources at hand to get help.  Being a former athlete didn't hurt. […]

Rift in the LGBTQ Community

Rift in the LGBTQ Community

From Congress.org comes this insightful analysis on what the looming failure to repeal DADT says about activism within the national LGBTQ community. The grassroots folks are calling for more accountability from Gay, Inc.  perhaps to form a more cohesive and inclusive strategy to getting *something* accomplished? Personally, I think stripping away the veneer of cooperation […]
