It’s Birthday Thursday! Sue turns 56 this week
She’s a hardcore Gen Xer building a new life on a tight budget due to her disability and divorce. She knows how to MacGyver her way through a tough spot, but she shouldn’t have to thrive on pure grit alone.
Can you drop a quick $5 or $6 in the bucket so she’s not:
- Drinking hose water from the neighbor’s yard
- Lining her boots with Wonder Bread bags
- Using store brand white bread as a substitute for veggie burger buns
Whatever you can give helps immensely. Nobody puts Sue in a corner!

Totally. Later.
So my relationship with my birthday is complicated, but this year … the week includes an appointment with the oral surgeon and my divorce hearing.
I’ll head in Thursday looking for comfort.
Seriously, I have no plans. An appointment with an Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner (NP) I’ve already had the bloodwork, so I’ll be starting HRT for the my birthday! Plus, my annual viewing of When Harry Met Sally with a small birthday cake.
I’ve celebrated 21 birthdays in this home, more than anywhere. Good, sad, etc. The need to face my birthday anxiety forced me to push myself in therapy and come to terms with the reasons why it so chaotic for me. I regret how I managed it, but I know I truly didn’t know better – trauma is a bitch to control until you do the processing.
So my birthday wishes for this year
1. Mums. I miss my mum right now. Just drive-by mummery of pots showing up on my stoop. Like a big hug from my own mother.
2. Dinner. Just getting out. Nothing fancy. Definitely desert.
3. Help with my Living and Legal Expenses Fund.
