Born and raised in West Mifflin, Sue attended college in Washington DC, then graduate school in Louisiana and ended up in Kentucky doing social service ministry. She returned to Pittsburgh in 1997. She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. Sue and her wife have fostered over 25 kittens through Pittsburgh CAT and Homeless Cat Management Team, and now manage multiple community cat colonies in their neighborhood. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. She uses both her undergraduate and graduate degrees on a regular basis as a blogger and activist and regularly circulates her 1991 internship photo just to shake things up on her social media feeds. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

Santorum spokesfag goes to work for Fred Thompson

Santorum spokesfag goes to work for Fred Thompson

Guess whose back in all his self-loathing glory?  Yes, that's right … Santorum's very own spokesfag, Robert Traynham. After licking his wounds with some of the soothing corporate money vis a vis his PR consulting work, Traynham has hitched his wagon to the potential Thompson campaign as a senior advisor. Now it seems he's changed course […]

Non-Live Blogging: Luke really knows how to throw a party

Non-Live Blogging: Luke really knows how to throw a party

This afternoon, I thought it might be interesting to live blog an event that the Mayor actually attends. Something critical and groundbreaking, perhaps even newsworthy.  Like, say perhaps, a “garden” party to celebrate his single-handed reclamation of a porn palace for the good citizens of Pittsburgh.  <insert applause> So off we toddled to West Park […]

Speaking of the police …

Speaking of the police …

Here's something sad and pathetic about the abuse of police pwer … An officer who ordered two women to put on a “sex show” in a jail cell will be fired.  Norberto Cappas, 32, was found guilty by a police tribunal of conduct unbecoming an officer and lying during a departmental investigation and will lose […]

Correspondent Covers City Council Hearing.

I was busy today at the City Council hearing on the promotions of three police officers with domestic violence histories (or allegations).  I live blogged for the Pittsburgh Women's Blogging Society.  You can start here and scroll back through nine posts. While local LGBT activist Billy Hileman showed up to testify, I was somewhat stunned […]

Lesbians Dirtier Than Political Junkies, Comets, and Carbolic Smoke Balls — Rivaled only by MacYapper

Lesbians Dirtier Than Political Junkies, Comets, and Carbolic Smoke Balls — Rivaled only by MacYapper

Gay is a bad word.  This I discovered after Maria pointed out that her blog was rated R for adult content.  So I just had to see where the lesbians ranked.  And guess what?   This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words: gay (24x) lesbian (12x) queer (2x) bomb (1x) […]

Touching Base on International Gay Issues

Touching Base on International Gay Issues

I haven't been feeling especially bloggy lately, which usually means I scour the Internet for interesting gay tidbits that don't require a lot of commentary.  This is today's version … Russian Christians have attempted to purge the Moscow River in the wake of a gay cruise that sailed those very waters.  [O]ne of the action's […]

Gay Stuff To Read About

The Newark city school district redacted this photo from the high school yearbook after labeling it “illicit” even though the book featured multiple heterosexual kissing couples.  So the district blacked it out. After a brouhaha erupted, the school district offered to provide an “unredacted” version to anyone who wanted it.   Huh. Elizabeth Edwards supports gay […]

A Treasure Trove of Family History

A Treasure Trove of Family History

Today, I carted some boxes from my Grandma's to Lesbian Central so I can scan the photos and organize the lot of materials.  She's fine, but I want to try and get her to identify some of the people in the snapshots before it is too late.  Ledcat and I spent the afternoon cleaning our […]

Random Cool Friday Night Stuff

Random Cool Friday Night Stuff

Ledcat has been traveling this week, so tonight I'm frantically doing all the chores I promised would be completed for her return tomorrow.  So I've got my brand new copy of “Pride & Prejudice” (BBC version of course) playing the DVD player while I dust and sweep and sort the accumulation of stuff that does […]

City Paper on PrideFest or not

City Paper on PrideFest or not

The CP sent Jared Trent Stonesifer to cover Pride.  In this article, he discussed the evening block party (Pride in the Streets), the Awareness March, the Pride Theatrer Festival and the Warhol exhibit on queer black life in the 30's and 40's.  Notice anything missing? Yep, he forgot to cover the actual festival (PrideFest).  The […]
