Sue is the founder of Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents blog, established in 2005.. She has an MSW from the University in Pittsburgh and a BA in Political Science from Marymount University. Her undergraduate claim to fame is a six month stint as an intern with then Congressman Rick Santorum in 1991. Born and raised in West Mifflin, Sue attended college in Washington DC, then graduate school in Louisiana and ended up in Kentucky doing social service ministry. She returned to Pittsburgh in 1997. She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. She was among the first out LGBTQ people named to Pittsburgh’s 40 Under 40 in 2004 and is a graduate of Leadership Development Initiative Class VII. After being fully and permanently disabled in 2010, Sue has continued to serve the community. She founded the Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project to address hunger and environmental issues. In 2015, she launched the #AMPLIFY LGBTQ archive in conjunction with a two-year artist in residence stint with Most Wanted Fine Art. Sue and her wife have fostered over 25 kittens through Pittsburgh CAT and Homeless Cat Management Team, and now manage multiple community cat colonies in their neighborhood. In 2020, Sue cofounded the Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT to support the queer and trans community during the pandemic, distributing tens of thousands of face masks and other supplies throughout the region. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. PLC absorbed the #PghCatFolx projects. She uses both her undergraduate and graduate degrees on a regular basis as a blogger and activist and regularly circulates her 1991 internship photo just to shake things up on her social media feeds. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

Gay Straight Alliances have positive impact on schools; Pittsburgh 92.9 not so much …

A GLSEN study on the impact of student Gay Straight Alliances found that schools are generally less tolerant of homophobia, while LGBTQ students are less likely to hear gay slurs, more likely to perform well academically and feel safer in the classroom.  Wow, a supportive environment makes a difference for the well-being and academic progress […]

Condi Rice Shares House and Line of Credit a/another Woman — Does it matter?

Condi Rice Shares House and Line of Credit a/another Woman — Does it matter?

Yesterday, I received 8 kajillion email messages informing me that public documents reveal that Secretary of State Rice has been co-owner of a house with documentary maker, Randy Bean (Rice and Bean — imagine the hay McIntire will make with that one?).  Does this mean she's a lesbian? Maybe, maybe not — but it does […]

End War Fast and Arrest

End War Fast and Arrest

As expected, the CP covers the ongoing End War Fast targeting the military recruitment center in Oakland.  As you can imagine, the police are being less than cooperative and, apparently the protestors are depriving Oaklanders of greasy fast food, photocopies and overpriced bandaids.  Darn them!  Imagine the exercise of civil rights getting in the way of commerce […]

Dessert, Bingo, and the Zoo — A Gay Bonanza in Pittsburgh (plus other stuff)

Dessert, Bingo, and the Zoo — A Gay Bonanza in Pittsburgh (plus other stuff)

First, some upcoming queer things to do in Pittsburgh … OUTrageous Bingo is this Saturday, September 15 at Goodwill's building on the Southside.  This is a good time and benefits two local causes — the GLCC and Shepherd Wellness Center.  “Dining for Diversity” also takes place Saturday evening from 9 – 11:30 @ SPACE downtown.  […]

Gay sex havens, ginormous strollers and Larry Craig

Gay sex havens, ginormous strollers and Larry Craig

Bradley S. Gelder of Point Breeze is not a fan of police officers staking out public restrooms noted as gay sex havens.  Even more disturbing and surprising than the continuing homophobic right-wing hypocrisy exemplified by the Sen. Larry Craig story (“Idaho Senator Stepping Aside,” Sept. 2) is that police departments continue to waste their time […]

Mike Rogers – Outing Hypocrites One Blog Post at a Time

I like Mike Rogers, the author of BlogActive.com.  Rogers uses his powers for good, outing hypocritical legislators who hide in their pathetic closets while publicly voting against gay rights.  From a profile in the Washington Post: For three years now, he's been a feared one-man machine, “outing,” he says, nearly three dozen senior political and […]

“Take your tolerance and shove it.” — wingnuts shower the love on Jerry Lewis

“Take your tolerance and shove it.” — wingnuts shower the love on Jerry Lewis

Good grief!  I've been blogging for about 20 months during which I've tackled everything from Rick Santorum's former spokesfag to annoying Republican ice cream twins.  I've mocked the homophobic Ravenstahl administration.  I've targeted Joey Porter, the Archbishop of Nigeria, the City Paper, Edgar Snyder, a lesbian variety show, Pride in the Streets and most major […]

Stuff I wonder about …

Stuff I wonder about …

Just some random questions I have … 1. Why can't you recycle caps from plastic bottles?  No one from the recycling world has been able to answer this question. 2.  Do thongs/shoes with a little thing between the big and second toe hurt all women's feet? While at the Waterfront this afternoon, I noticed that […]

Breaking News — Jerry Lewis uses “fag” on the air during live telethon …

h/t Ms. Monongahela I did not see this myself, primarily because I would rather gouge my eyes out with a stick than sit through 78 hours of Jerry Lewis.  Instead, I went shopping. It seems I missed quite a moment today.  Jerry Lewis refers to someone in the audience as “Jesse, an illiterate fag” while […]

Goodreads …

I can't rave enough about this social networking site for booklovers.  I added a little widget thingy to this blog so you can keep up with what I”m reading.  I'm not ashamed to say it is not all literary — I read a lot of mystery novels.  Check it out!
