Sue is the founder of Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents blog, established in 2005.. She has an MSW from the University in Pittsburgh and a BA in Political Science from Marymount University. Her undergraduate claim to fame is a six month stint as an intern with then Congressman Rick Santorum in 1991. Born and raised in West Mifflin, Sue attended college in Washington DC, then graduate school in Louisiana and ended up in Kentucky doing social service ministry. She returned to Pittsburgh in 1997. She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. Sue and her wife have fostered over 25 kittens through Pittsburgh CAT and Homeless Cat Management Team, and now manage multiple community cat colonies in their neighborhood. In 2020, Sue cofounded the Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT to support the queer and trans community during the pandemic, distributing tens of thousands of face masks and other supplies throughout the region. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. PLC absorbed the #PghCatFolx projects. She uses both her undergraduate and graduate degrees on a regular basis as a blogger and activist and regularly circulates her 1991 internship photo just to shake things up on her social media feeds. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

The Trib on Pittsburgh Lesbian Scene – Huh?

The Trib on Pittsburgh Lesbian Scene – Huh?

OK, this just strikes me as weird.  The Tribune-Review sent a reporter to OUTrageous Bingo to do a story on the lack of a lesbian scene in Pittsburgh.  “Lesbian scene” should always be read as “no lesbians bars,” but we'll get to that in a moment. OUTrageous Bingo is a mixed event – gay men, […]

Kennywood Unfurls Homophobic Gay Pirate Show

Kennywood Unfurls Homophobic Gay Pirate Show

An email message has been circulating the Internet for the past 24 hours, claiming that the newest entertainment at Kennywood has homophobic content and asking the community complain about it.  I've been unsuccessful in contacting the individual, an employee of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, but have received several copies of the message from credible […]

Bush, Pope, and Ahmadinejad included on homophobic Hall of Shame

Bush, Pope, and Ahmadinejad included on homophobic Hall of Shame

h/t Pam's House Blend Today is International Day Against Homophobia. LGBT groups in more than 50 countries will participate in the initiative, which was launched in 2005 to mark the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of disorders. I work for a mental health provider that just extended […]

Gaylettres to the Editor and other gay stuff

Gaylettres to the Editor and other gay stuff

You mean other stuff happened yesterday?  Here's a smattering … Scott Weber of Shaler wrote to the Post-Gazette urging people to recognize the value of gay parenting. In describing his country's new civil partnership law, British Prime Minister Tony Blair spoke about what he called “the civilizing effect” the policy has had on society far […]

Bill Peduto on the “coming of age” of Pittsburgh democrats

Bill Peduto on the “coming of age” of Pittsburgh democrats

I chatted with my friend Councilman Bill Peduto about the election outcome and congratulating him.  The Burghosphere has been bursting with analysis of the Peduto impact — the Pedutocrats. Here's what Bill had to say about it all (I refer to him as Bill on account of us being friends n'at.): “Thanks, Sue – but it wasn't […]

Pittsburgh Primarily Votes for First Openly Gay City Councilman

Pittsburgh Primarily Votes for First Openly Gay City Councilman

With Bruce Kraus' victory in the Democratic primary, today is an historic moment for Pittsburgh and all of Western Pennsylvania.  Kraus is the first openly gay person to be headed for the hallowed halls of the City Council of Pittsburgh. In fact, he is the first openly gay elected official in Western Pennsylvania.  Well, he will […]

Jerry Falwell RIP

Jerry Falwell RIP

One of the most bitter foes of the American gay community has died and I only feel sadness for him and his family.  I'm sad because his legacy is permanently scarred by his unrelenting hatred and intolerance for people who are gay, feminist, foreign born, of color  and otherwise different from his vision of a godly […]

Arnet, Dowd and Kraus – Three Folks Gays Must Vote For

NOTE:  The first edition of this post switched the district races around.  I apologize for the ridiculous mistake and can only claim that the lack of coffee made me do it.  It goes to show that people ARE paying attention.  ***************************************************************** None received the ACDC endorsement so I didn't get to sing their praises in […]
