She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

eQuality Giving Targets 2 PA Races

eQuality Giving Targets 2 PA Races

EQuality Giving, an LGBTQ equality campaign fund, has included two Pennsylvania candidates among their lists. This project is a viable complement to the ongoing call for LGBTQ persons to stop donating to the party, from the DNC to the ACDC, and focus on the candidates who support equality, rather than a party which is wishy-washy […]

Court ruling on federal DOMA

Court ruling on federal DOMA

Interesting news from Boston. In an enormous victory for same-sex marriage, a federal judge in Boston today (Thursday, July 8) ruled, in two separate cases, that a critical part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional. In one challenge brought by the state of Massachusetts, Judge Joseph Tauro ruled that Congress violated the […]

Surviving the 4th

Every year, I dread this holiday. I hate the firecrackers, the crowds and the bickering. This year, we were proactive and had a joint family/friend cookout on Saturday evening.  We had about 20 people throughout the whole evening which worked out well since we only had 17 chairs.  They were ostensibly there to see our […]

Divorce, Etheridge Style

Divorce, Etheridge Style

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/03/tammy-lynn-michaels-melis_n_634926.html I get divorce, even a lack of civility and kindness. But how can a millionaire rock star rationally deny that the woman who helped raise her FOUR children, including the two she gave birth to, not to mention helped her through cancer, does not deserve alimony?  I guess marriage brings out the best and […]

This legislation which would give Foster Children some protections was stripped of protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the House version which passed in May. The legislation sits before the Senate Committee on Aging and Youth This is one of those under the radar, but very important issues for our community. I […]

Words from President Truman …

Words from President Truman …

From today's Post-Gazette … As we look toward the future, we must be sure that what we honor and venerate in these documents is not their words alone, but the ideas of liberty which they express. … The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence can live only as long as they are enshrined in our […]

Cheers!

I imagine a nice glass of lemonade in this glass …

Around the Nation …

Around the Nation …

Elena Kagan's nomination drew fire from Republicans because of her controversial decison around Don't Ask, Don't Tell while at Harvard.  Speaking of Kagan, here's some footage courtesy of the Bilerico Project of wing-nut hater extraordinaire, Tony Perkins, testifying against here.  Why isn't he building a soup kitchen or something?  Pam has a rather depressing analysis […]

A court ruling against bigotry

A court ruling against bigotry

From The New York Times … A public law school did not violate the First Amendment by withdrawing recognition from a Christian student group that excluded gay students, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday in a 5-to-4 decision. The case, involving a clash between religious freedom and antidiscrimination principles, divided along familiar ideological lines, with […]
