Transgender Woman Alexa Sokova Shot To Death In Florida

Alexa Alex Andreevna Sokova was a 30 years old Russian born model living in Florida. She was last seen on August 30, 2023.

On September 8th, 2023, she* was found deceased in a wooded area near Warbler Ave SW and St Andre Boulevard SW in Palm Bay, Florida. She had been shot multiple times.
Her roommate, Robert Paul Lanning (28), has been charged with her murder, and Lanning’s girlfriend, Rene Goodall Lemos, has been charged as an accessory after-the-fact. On September 5, 2023, she was reported missing, it is unclear by whom. Her friend, Robert Paul Lanning III stated he saw her last on 30 August 2023. Detectives opened an investigation and started to search areas near Sokova’s home, as well as within the Compound development.
They were also able to conduct a computer search on her vehicle and found that it was last seen in Alabama on 2 Sept 2023, this was only three days after she was first reported missing. On September 4,, her vehicle was also involved in a high-speed pursuit in Alabama, that ended in a crash. Lanning, was operating the vehicle and arrested. Police said Lanning’s girlfriend, Rene Lemos, showed up at the crash site.
On September 8, 2023, 30 year old Alex’ body was found in wooded area near Warbler and St. Andre in Palm Bay. She was shot multiple times. Both Lemos and Lanning were interviewed for her murder. They claimed that they met her on August 30, 2023 at a Circle K in Palm Bay and they drove out to “The Compound” together. Lanning was arrested in Marshall County, Alabama on charges of first-degree felony murder and grand theft. His girlfriend, Lemos, was arrested in Kennesaw, Georgia on charges of accessory after the fact to first-degree felony murder and grand theft.

Alexa was a former Miss Palm Bay petite. She worked as an androgynous model and described herself as “the new kate moss or twiggy.” Alexa worked for Viera Models. Her social media feeds are filled with fashion, jewelry, and modeling images.

*The victim used she/her pronouns on social media, though a friend states she had recently detransitioned. We are using she/her pronouns to refer to her at this time based on her own social media-based pronouns, but there is some chance he/him were the victim’s most recent pronouns

Alexa is the 20th trans or gender nonconforming person whose violent death has been reported in 2023. She is the 13th trans woman, and the third person born outside the US who relocated here. “Reported* is an important distinction to make as we know there are more folx whose deaths go unacknowledged.
