Today is Saturday, March 28, 2026. Many of you took to the streets to reclaim democracy and demand a stop to the kidnappings of our immigrant neighbors.

I was not there.

I was on a phone call with a person supporting an immigrant family in Southwestern PA. Originally, I was focused on securing dog food for their beloved dog. I’m calling the dog Roman Brady to add a level of anonymity.

How absurd is it that a dog’s name might identify their family and expose them to???

Dog food every month using autoship to our pantry is about $45-50. The helper will pick up from us.

We are a pet food pantry, so we know covering their dog food expenses helps.  It is one way to help.

During the phone conversation with the helper I also learned

• Three younger teen kids.
• Mom is quite pregnant
• Dad and pregnant Mom skip meals to make sure the kids eat.

Will you help? If we help one family without attaching strings, we build trust. They will tell another family. Or another helper.

This helper is connecting them with some resources. But it’s dangerous to wait in a food pantry line. Not a sentence I thought I’d write ever.

So if you help us help this family by feeding their dog in perpetuity, we can unite to find other needed resources.

• A midwife who will go to the home ASAP with the helper.
• Gift cards to buy food. The helper can deliver.
• Newborn items – clothing, diapers, etc. Hopefully a midwife can secure those items.  Do you have gently used baby items?
• Inside distractions for older kids.
• Nail polish, hair accessories, youth makeup, all that stuff for one kid. Sparkly things.
• Gift card for Netflix or such for the older kids. That’s the only thing I can come up with. Helper is asking. They like sports, but can’t play outside. Ideas?
• Maybe Amazon gift cards so older kids can pick something they want? Someone bought them a game console so helper will find out what kind.
• A recurring shipment of dog food.
• The kids asked for a large Kong for the dog. Good kids.

So now I know that I have to find the other helpers and find out what other pets need. And respond to human needs OF COURSE.

It will be a lot of work.

I’m not giving any specifics. I will give everything for the helper to deliver (except the baby.)

Will you help this family today? Another family next week? Maybe donate the money you might have spent at Starbucks or Target after your protest event?

Mutual aid is the only way.

They are just hoping for some dog food and a Kong. But it will take more to ensure everyone is fed, baby is safely delivered, everyone is safe at home.
