Closing costs. Securing a rental unit so I can get some peace of mind.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know I had to set up a legal and living expenses fund to cope with a terrible series of events.

I’m currently trying to secure a rental unit. There’s something called the 3x/rent policy where the landlord requires I prove I have assets to cover 3x the rent for the entire year.

I am pretty close to this particular goal. I need to raise $3000 total for the move (movers, utility deposits, etc) but right now I need $500 to meet this 3x goal thanks to some fantastic help from other people.

I also need someone to cosign my lease. My credit score is just below the required minimum. I pay my bills, but I have a bit of debt from all of this. I don’t have family to ask. My friends have done a lot for me so I can’t pressure them on this. The good news is that the rent is actually pooled together in a separate account so risk is minimal. I donI

I don’t want to mingle FICO scores with strangers. I feel pathetic having to ask. But the divorce court only counted 2.5 years of legal marriage, not the 16 additional years of domestic partnership. So I have almost no resources. Except this blog and my community work. And you.

I am trying to graciously adapt to a new life of utter dependency. You know I’ll lean into the programs available to me. But I’m only 56 years old. Am I going to crowdfund for 20 years? And what about people who don’t have a blog and social media reach? This is terrible, it feels terrible, it feels like all the worst things I’ve thought about myself are coming home to roost. And I’m mixing metaphors.

The system kicked me hard, several times. I am angry, bitter, defiant, pissed, and exhausted asking for help. But it is the only way I can survive and thrive, so here goes – can you please help me with this final hurdle to securing housing? Once it is secured, I’ll tell you about it. It hits a lot of checkboxes for me.

It would mean I can continue blogging and resume the Dr. John P. Ruffing Pet Food Pantry work. All of my links are here.

On a lovely and bright note, someone I don’t know found my housewarming wishlist and sent me a – wait for it – toaster oven! And a purple can opener. But toaster oven! For a newly established lesbian household. Get it?

Four other people subscribed to my Patreon. Woo hoo!
