Perchance, Manchester house is the solution to my problems?

There’s a house on my block that was recently renovated, not restored. It has been on and off the market. The current asking price is $284,000.

The house is 1300 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an office. Plus living room and kitchen. I could store the entire pet food pantry in one of those rooms – this is legal. I could have an office, a bedroom and a guest room.

There’s a backyard and parking pad. There are three additional plots of land, just like at my current home. The backyard is directly across from Fort Faulsey.

I could build a catio. Put up the shed (finally.) Even have a roommate.

I would be down the street from the cats who do not come to live with me so I could visit them. And their human could visit the ones with me.

Now there’s a reason this house hasn’t been snapped up in a hot real estate market, but I don’t know what it is.

The monthly payment is $1890. That’s nearly $400 more than my monthly income.

Still, I am drawn to this house. It gives me hope that maybe in some way I can save myself through the community work that I do. It is a pipe dream as there is zero option to buy or rent this house. But pipe dreams sustain us – our minds wander to lottery winnings, unexpected windfalls, anonymous donors, even divine intervention. I’m not counting on those things, but they help me get through restless nights and anxious days as I wait for my true path forward to make itself known.

There’s a smaller house a few streets away for only $189,000. But it needs work. And $189,000 still not in my range. My range is “free” “pity” and “OMG, what am I going to do?” The principle of housing being no more than 33% of income would mean I can pay $500 for housing. What do you think that house looks like?

I still need help with legal and living expenses. Neither has decreased. My income hasn’t increased. Your donation won’t help me buy this house 🙂 but it will help me buy a pair of sneakers for my injured feet and get dental work that insurance won’t cover and keep paying my lawyer as we near the deposition phase.

I’m not at the point of even looking for housing, but I do look. The prospects at my level of poverty are dismal.

They just got worse. HUD announced new regulations around emotional support and service animals in all funded properties. That’s going to kill people. People depend on these animals to survive. Veterans, seniors, children, etc. Previously, they implemented really harsh restrictions on work and income limits. And then HUD is proposing to roll back protections that give trans folx equal access by removing gender identity and sexual orientation from their housing non-discrimination rules.

The chance for me to find affordable decent housing on my SSDI are nonexistent.
