Beautiful – the Carole King Musical this weekend in Pittsburgh

This weekend only, the Cultural Trust will present the Carole King musical. You should go. Fri, Mar 18 – Sun, Mar 20, 2022

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

The phrase “soundtrack of a generation” seems odd to me at first because I didn’t really grow up listening to Carole King. I think of her as from another generation, the one before mine. But as I read through this impressive list, I realize that she was someone who bookended most of my life, or at least the first 50 years.

Tickets start at $33 and available here.

Did you know King is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100? What is your favorite?
