Sourcing Winter Cat Shelter Whilst Reflecting on My Future

Only four days into NaBloPoMo and I’m scrambling to get a post up in the next 51 minutes. Democrats won every single election. I’m sure the analysis will feed news stories for days to come. While it is much needed good news, it still is like the bare minimum to navigate the terror in the […]

If I don’t get your calls, then everything goes wrong #NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo 2025, November 3. I have an announcement to make. Like many of you (well, all of you) I find it tiresome to watch my cell phone inbox fill up with spam every single day. I used to just answer the call, wait for it to connect, and then hang up. But that’s not always […]

It’s time now to sing out, though the story never ends, is it 10,519,200 minutes to measure 20 years of a blog?

December 29, 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of this blog. That’s huge. Most blogs are abandoned after 90 days, the rest typically last 2-3 years. So we are kicking some ass when it comes to longevity. Anyway, I am here right now to ask you, my correspondents, how we should celebrate? Guest blog posts – […]

Update on Pet Food Pantry and SNAP recipients

Registered households increased by 16% in four days Late last week, we posted about our commitment to support pet owners who have/will lose their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP benefits in November due to the Republicans shutting down the Federal Government. Mind you, the program is structured so it is funded, but Republicans resist […]

LGBTQ+ Poverty and SNAP: NaBloPoMo

NaBloPoMo 2025: November 2 A great concern me has always been the lack of solidarity affluent white gay men and lesbians demonstrate to the larger LGBTQ+ community, especially those who do not identify as gay or lesbian. This illustrated the importance of a class or economic analysis when discussing “the” LGBTQ+ community. The lapse of […]

Time for NaBloPoMo 2025 edition

Life is complicated right now, but I decided to get back on this horse and try again. Making time to blog each day is an important mental and emotional exercise. I don’t know what to say this first day. There are no prompts for National Blog Post Month days this year. Perhaps as the art […]

Our Caturday Catchup

The ugly decision to target our vulnerable neighbors by halting SNAP benefits disgusts all of us. The Dr. John P. Ruffing VMD Pet Food Pantry is responding two ways Pet food is not covered by SNAP. But the cutoff means families will need to use more of their available financial resources for food, prioritizing the […]

Video: And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

I’m trying in my own fumbling way to create content. Today, I made a longish video (5 minutes) touring the winter preparations for our cat colonies. I’m actually pleased with how most of it turned out. I have yet to master the art of clipping video and fusing new segments. View this post on Instagram […]

Pittsburgh Based Pet Food Pantry Seeks Donations, Will Offer Emergency Resources to Neighbors Losing SNAP Benefits

This crisis is not the time for people to relinquish their pets or feel guilty because they can’t feed them. Hi. This is Sue from the Dr. John P. Ruffing VMD Pet Food Pantry, a project of Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities. Marie and I were talking about the impact of the SNAP crisis on pet owners. […]

The Great White Silence

Today I was in an online class with almost 100% white folx over 50. Someone used a racist term about immigrants. I said something. Guess what the other white folx did? There is no space where it is ‘safe’ to turn away from racism. People are putting their lives on the line, their bodies in […]
