Pennsylvania Will Host Over 70 Pride Festivals in 2026

April 27, 2026 by

Time to get your Pridefest plans on the calendar. I did a quick scan across the Commonwealth and identified 70 Pride festivals. This does not include Pride adjacent events. I can include those later if I get inspired.

I am now convinced that we have moved away from giant urban prides toward what I call “Little Pridefests Everywhere” – the central urban events are still important, still larger, still critical. But the emergence of the hyperlocal pride festivals in suburban communities, small towns, and rural regions is equally vital.

It is good that people have choices. I myself prefer smaller “park” events with some music and performances, the chance to really talk with people.

It is also quite important to note the courage of folx organizing and attending Pride events in 2/3 of the Commonwealth where there are no discrimination protections. If you work in Vandergrift or Kittanning or New Castle, you can be fired for simply being at Pride. That is not a small thing. And it is not a small thing that our PA Legislature has failed to address this matter.

So peruse the list, let me know if I missed anything (or made mistakes) and I’ll publish an updated version closer to June.

A few things caught my eye:

  • Allegheny County has 17 Pride festivals scheduled, again not including other Pride events. 17 Pride festivals over eight weeks time. Mostly in the East, South, and City neighborhoods. Let’s hope we someday see McKeesport and McKees Rocks Prides.
  • I believe Fox Chapel has merged with Aspinwall and Sharpsburg, another example of fluidity
  • Butler County held a Pride last year, but no word on this year. I think that’s important. Beaver County also had no Prides. It is unclear if Washington County will hold a Pride this year.
  • Westmoreland County has three Pride festivals, Fayette has one, Armstrong has one, as does Indiana. Lawrence, Venango, Mercer, Crawford, and Erie counties all have Pride festivals. That’s about half of the counties in Western PA.
  • The longest running Pride in Western PA has been Pittsburgh Black Pride – since 1995. That’s where we could all turn for advice on sustainability.
