Update from Legal and Living Expenses Appeal

Things are still chugging along – still no trial date. My  team will be interviewing two witnesses next week so that’s a big bit of news. And we are bringing someone else the following week.

I am doing okay. Last week, someone contacted me and offered to buy me a pair of hiking boots I had previously mentioned needing due to a back injury. I was pleasantly surprised – it is a kind gesture that addresses a specific material need I can’t afford to address. It also reminds me that a lot of people understand this is a marathon, not a spring (as they say) so good shoes are important.

It is hard to suss out what is a true need, a self-care need (are they the same?) and a splurge. I’ve made and canceled my hair appointment a half dozen times.

One thing I’d like to do that is somewhere between self-care and splurge is get another tattoo. This one would be a vine around my upper left arm with a small paw print representing each pet (dog and cat) animal in my life (not the fosters) The concept of a vine winding down my arm is that I could potentially include future pets. No names, no dates. Just the imprint of our relationship on my life. I counted 40 dating back to childhood.

Pets are property, period. Unless I win my appeal, I will be homeless and thus, the pets will stay with their other human who can provide a home. I want them to stay together in their home, but it will devastate me. Anything like visitation, shared ownership must be negotiated privately – and a trial divorce with a tort and possible appeals isn’t inherently amicable.

Even if I found some sort of housing, I’d probably be limited to 2 cats at most. How do I pick? The ones most attached to me? The ones most likely to be rehomed when I’m gone? The most bonded? The least social?

For now, I do not need to pick. I can enjoy all of them every day. They are currently sprawled out in their post-lunch/pre-dinner naps.

So my head is above water, but these upcoming meetings will drain my resources. All I can do is to keep swimming.

Oh, on a related note – the defamation case filed in 2023 over the Protect Trans Kids against me and six others is set to be dismissed in early September. That will be a huge relief.

Any help you offer to offset the upcoming three meetings will be much appreciated. By me and the cats.
