Some communities have organized to distribute directly. We are crowdfunding with them to pay for a box of 50 signs ($580) so we can get them in the ground ASAP.
Our ‘urgent care’ vet office is on Brookline Boulevard. As foster parents to kittens and cats, we go there quite a bit. And I always notice that there are almost no #PTK yardsigns in Brookline. Or Dormont. Or Beechview. Etc.
If the South Hills residents won’t come to ask for signs, we’ll take the signs to them. FYI, you can already pick up a sign in Brentwood.
Having successfully wrapped up efforts to send 50 signs to McCandless, we are rolling up our sleeves and turning our eyes south.
In Brookline, we’ve teamed up with Antonio’s Pizzeria. They will distribute signs, stickers, pens, etc.
We also have our eyes on Carnegie. We are waiting for confirmation from our local partner.
Brookline, Dormont, Beechview, Green Tree all have nice long streets with green yards – perfect for yard signs. Lot of visibility on some high traffic roads. Long red lights. I was born in the South Hills and grew up in West Mifflin, South Hills adjacent. Andy Warhol is buried in the South Hills. Many of these communities are represented by an out queer woman in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. There are a lot of good, hard-working people who are concerned about multiple issues – affordable housing, economic security, healthcare, and most of them think that no one should put a giant handmade sign into the bedroom window of a 15-year-old kid telling her she’s lesser. Most of these folx agree with us that kids deserve to be safe in their bedrooms and their homes.
