Our Blog Named Finalist in GLAAD Media Awards for Third Consecutive Year

This genuinely caught me off guard in a good way; we were again nominated as a finalist in the GLAAD media awards in the Outstanding Blog category.

You may recall we were also a finalist in 2018, then won the category in 2019. A third consecutive nomination is humbling and energizing as we head into our 15th year of blogging.

This is not an award for me (Sue), but for the site. I’m happy to report that we have new contributing bloggers in the mix and I want to acknowledge their contributions. Our crew includes:

E! and Rachel are new to our team, joining us in 2019. I am super psyched that they both came on board to bring fresh perspectives. This also now means that 3 out of our 5 bloggers are trans women and I’m very glad for that. In 2020, we’ll be joined by Shanon. We expect great things from these diverse perspectives.

There’s also our technical support team, Anna, with a great assist from Van. Literally, Anna has kept us running even when I derail code and commit other atrocities against html. With 15 years of data, her task is daunting. It appears in 2020, we’ll have to migrate to a self-hosted option and that is terrifying to me. But it is what 5,000+ blog posts require.

We have sustaining supporters through Patreon and PayPal. I never knew that would be a thing much less that people would want to do this with us. We also joined Medium and have some great followers there as well.

We have friends who regularly signal boost our work including Adam Shuck at The Pittsburgh Record, David DeAngelo from 2 Political Junkies, and the wonderful Tereneh Idia.

Organizations like OUTrageous Bingo, PFLAG Greensburg, and ReelQ also share our content along with Circle of Faith. We really appreciate that investment in our work.

So it sincerely is an honor to be nominated. Let’s see what this award season and 2020 brings.

On a humorous note, let me add a few benchmarks I’d like to achieve in the future

  • Judge in a local contest. On a stage with a name tag and a chance to do that little celebrity judge wave.
  • Part of a float in the Celebrate the Season parade. Again, wave. But with a cute Santa hat. And gloves.
  • Best Local Blog of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh magazine. Then I’m done with awards.
  • Cupcake at the Priory in honor of the blog (not just me) What would a PghLesbian cupcake look like?
  • ???
