In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. Happy Two Year Crowdiversary. What an awkward way to acknowledge an awkward situation.

On this date in 2023, my friends Melissa and Diane helped me to get this crowdfund started It was a Saturday morning after an anxious night. I had called RESOLVE to ask for their assistance getting my prescription medications from my home – I was still homeless, staying with friends at that point. So I […]

Oh, my darling, knock three times

Today, I made my favorite casserole- chicken divan – along with a pile of brown rice. Today was a day. Laundry. Therapy. Blogging. Catching up with friends. Oh, I remembered to water the mums. Maybe relationships are like casseroles – you show me your recipe, I change something and share it back. What you consider […]

Sitting cross-legged on the floor 25 or 6 to 4

I stayed up too late last night and woke up late, the sort of late start that makes your crotchety and out of sorts for hours until you shake yourself back. I was late enough to have to reschedule an appointment with a very understanding medical provider. Coffee helped. It is the time of year […]

“Five Nights at Freddy’s Is this where you want to be?

I’m on my own for the next five days – just me and the cats. And the groundhogs. Raccoons. Possum.  A few noisy neighbors. Today, I had therapy, followed by a turkey sandwich piled high with lettuce. When I got up to get a napkin, Coco – the turkey obsessed demon – dragged it onto […]

The Neil Diamond Story Fills the Benedum with Beautiful Music

But I got an emptiness deep insideAnd I’ve tried, but it won’t let me goAnd I’m not a man who likes to swearBut I never cared for the sound of being alone I like Neil Diamond. His songs peppered my childhood then slid into the mellow soft rock of my young adulthood. Melancholy rock might […]

In the 90’s, the Mormon Calvary Saved a Food Pantry

Update on the Closure of the Pittsburgh Pet Food Pantry Pittsburgh has been responsive – 27 people have ordered items from our wishlists. It is a little hard to know the quantity until they arrive. But 27 is lovely and will help us be prepared for October. I’ll admit I was hoping for an autumn […]

My Updated Review of Giant Eagle’s Curbside Services and How to Maybe Get Free Delivery

Since the pandemic, I’ve been a pretty consistent Giant Eagle shopper, predominantly using Curbside Express or Home Delivery. I like supporting a locally owned company, a unionized company, and a company that includes people with disabilities in their workforce. I know the financial prices might be higher, but those things are prices we pay or […]

Update: Reasons Why a Pittsburgh Pet Food Pantry is Closing Temporarily

As we announced, the Dr. John P. Ruffing VMD Pet Food Pantry has to close for September because of a lack of donations. I didn’t really get much feedback. Chalked that up to there being so much wrong in the world, so much bad news that this was just more. Did I expect the calvary […]
