Today was busy.
I did some work on sourcing winter shelters for our pet food pantry caretakers. Thanks to many volunteers, we now have 10 completed shelters that should be distributed in the next 48 hours as cold weather approaches.
We need some more. I asked Animal Friends for more kits. One of our caretakers found Styrofoam containers, but we need a volunteer to pick them up and transport to the volunteer who is assembling them.
Our plan it to take any extra and put them in the pet food pantry distribution area so people can pick up on their own. We’ll also have straw.
It isn’t much, but it is something tangible we can do. And something we can do as a collective. Caretakers are assembling the shelters, others transporting them, still others searching for more sources. It is an effort that strengthens our ties to one another.
Then I spent hours revamping our distribution lists. So tedious, but so essential. Tomorrow is our next distribution day, so I’ll head up to Marie’s around 11 AM to help pack the bags. We are sending everyone a pet bed cover. We try to include something small and sort of fun in each bag. We did leashes last month – everyone should have a leash tucked in their purse/glovebox in case you see a stray dog. Or you need a tie for something.
Unsure what we’ll do in December.
And I did some laundry, some tidying, heated up dinner, blogging, and now I”m watching a documentary called Sugarcane about the Residential Schools reign of terror on Indigenous children across America and Canada. It is sobering, but in the way that everyone should experience.
I worry. I worry about having enough pet food for the pantry. I worry about having enough resources for my legal cases. I worry about getting ready for the Trans Day of Remembrance.
I worry.
