My Friend Amy Sent me a PSL Care Package from New York

My friend Amy is pretty awesome. I don’t think she hears that often enough. I don’t think she believes it to be true. So I am putting it on the official record. I have known Amy since at least 1975 so I should know.

Recently, she asked me – oh so innocently – if i liked Pumpkin Spice flavorings. That led to my favorite annual discussion – growing up as a Gen Xer who had APPLE flavored fall things. But I do like some pumpkin spice flavored items. I’ve blogged about PSL memes. I guest published a post about pumpkin spice as a reflection of white supremacy.

But before we go too far down that road, back to Amy. She knew I had been feeling down lately with some pretty big ‘anniversaries’ so she put together a pumpkin spice flavored care package and shipped it to me.

The fun thing is that I would never buy these items myself (save $$) but it is absolutely fun to try them.

  1. Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Creme Pies
  2. Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls
  3. Swiss Miss Pumpkin Spice hot chocolate
  4. Pumpkin Spice pop-tarts
  5. belVita Pumpkin Spice breakfast biscuits
  6. Dunkin pumpkin spice kcups
  7. Werther’s Original Pumpkin Spice soft caramel
  8. Hershey’s milk chocolate nuggets with pumpkin spice filling
  9. Lindor Pumpkin Spice truffles
  10. Pumpkin Spice snaps
  11. Pumpkin Jelly Beans

I like the balance – your breakfast foods, your beverages, your candy snacks, your snack cake snacks, and jelly beans. I’m a little afraid of those.

But as you recall, I have two taste testers at my disposal – a 14 year old and a 18 year old. They will try any candy. And they have no problem if I give them an opened bag of something I don’t love. So there is no waste.

And the k-cups? Well, you may recall in 2014, Keurig sent me a device to review and I was not a fan. There have been a lot of advances in these things. Right now, I use a French Press to make my coffee, but the filter thingies always fall off so I think it is getting worn out. A friend acquired a knock-off Keurig for me. Thus, I have a good reason to set it up and give it a whirl. Remember when the Influenster shared her sad feelings that a Keurig was wasted on me? Good times.

I am a great fit for product placement now because I have substantial followings on Instagram and Facebook. Mostly I get offered underwear, herbal supplements, and AI created tee shirts. I have been offered cat stuff, but I think it was a scam.

My friend Amy is pretty awesome. She put a smile on my face, gave me lots of distractions and reasons to see the siblings, and had a little fun with the white girl PSL imagery. We talk once or twice each week, just to visit with someone who knows each other. She previously sent me a care package for our 50th friendvarersary.

I wish I could level up to her care packages. Right now, I could pull off a bag of cat treats, some mismatched socks, 13 stretchy gloves of different colors, a big stack of magazines from 2015, and an inordinate amount of expired herbal teas. And tote bags. Of course.

In our junior or senior year of high school, we spent Halloween evening walking through the woods (!!!) to our friend Jason’s house. He was surprised, but welcomed us. Then we had to walk home, through the woods. We knew our parents would not rescue us and think it was just desserts for being so silly. Jason did not drive or did not have a car.

I don’t remember that walk home. I remember dreading it. Obviously, we survived. We did not stop for PSL on the way. There was nothing pumpkin about that adventure, but a bit of spice for sure.

Guess I better start planning on sending my own care package soon. Just need some ideas.

May you all have a friend like Amy.
