I Scream “Bring Me Some Ice Cream”

A local ice cream parlor invites you to create a new wacky flavor. It needs to channel the very essence of your personality. What’s in it?

I would pick vanilla ice cream with brownie bits and some sort of coffee/espresso ribbon. I’d be willing to trade off the brownie bits for chocolate chip cookie dough bits. I’d also consider a peanut butter cookie bit. But not all of these.

The vanilla base is because I do like a stable, predictable foundation and I am pretty vanilla on the surface. I actually prefer chocolate to vanilla, but not for mixtures. Chocolate stands on its own. Toss or mix in things and it becomes overpowering.

The coffee/espresso ribbon reflects my love for coffee and that little bit of a jolt that runs through my everyday life, be it politics, advocacy or simple bluntness on my part.

The brownie bits are about indulgence and self-care. I didn’t get much of that when I was young and now I take care of me. When I want a brownie, I eat a brownie. I don’t beat myself up about it and I don’t deny myself for the sake of someone else’s opinions. Chocolate chip cookie dough can be the same thing.

That’s it. The thing with ice cream “loaded” with stuff is that it overwhelms the taste buds. A little sweet, a little kick and a consistent base. That’s my kind of ice cream.

In a waffle cone. Without the little wrapper at the bottom – I hate those. Especially the ones with flags. So let me add that – no wrapper, preferably a freshly pressed waffle a la Klavons and maybe the little m&m at the bottom a la Dave & Andy’s.

Presentation matters, after all.

And, I really am fine with plain old chocolate.
