Today I was in an online class with almost 100% white folx over 50. Someone used a racist term about immigrants. I said something. Guess what the other white folx did?
There is no space where it is ‘safe’ to turn away from racism. People are putting their lives on the line, their bodies in the line of fire, using their voices everyday to stand up against the racist kidnapping tactics of the US Federal Government.
These moments are the time to use your whistles, folx. Face the discomfort, wade into the awkward zone, take a deep breath and come get your people. If you can’t push back on some older white woman or man in a Zoom comments section, don’t fool yourself about your response when the National Guard rolls into Pittsburgh with ICE. You’ve shown your hand.
Do better.
