Stuff the Community Cats Stockings – Now!

donate to cats
Our friend and partner Ed raised $180 in tips from a local performance art event.

We are getting down to the wire … will enough donors pitch in to #SantaClawsPgh?

Our goal is to provide gift cards to the 25 neighbors on our cat colony pet food distribution list – to thank them for their contributions to the community.  We will be distributing toward year’s end so still time to contribute and make the holidays a bit more merry. At least a $25 card for each of the 25 caretakers.

I love the idea of devoting ‘Boxing Day’ to … cats. Who better to appreciate boxes?

Now for a final twist – cat treats to stuff the stockings of each colony cat. Our working total is 580 cats in our identified colonies so its ambitious to shoot for 580 bags/boxes of cat treats in a week.

Fortunately, we are ambitious. And we really love cats.

We don’t always use treats because we spend that money on food and veterinary care. Treats are “extras” and often empty calories. But they taste great and draw a crowd when you need to eyeball a certain cat. And everybody deserves a treat especially on a cold winter’s day.

Pretty Girl, Jennie Jane, and Callie searching for the treats I had just tossed to them. These are the colony matriarchs.

So while doing last minute or regular old shopping, consider grabbing a few bags of treats to chip in to this stocking stuffer effort.

How to participate

  • Shop in Wagsburgh on East Ohio St  on the Northside or support your local pet store with a similar purchase.
  • Shop our Chewy wish list – $75 for free shipping – or our Amazon wish lists for items shipped directly to us. You can also ship from Target, etc.
  • My resident cats do not like their cat Advent calendar so it’s now going to our colony cats who love it. If you have a similar anti-Advent or anti-treats situation, please donate the unused portion to us. Partial calendars with unopened bits are fine.
  • Hit up those post-holiday sales.
  • Get gift cards from Giant Eagle to get the points, buy treats, send treats to neighbors and keep points for you.
  • Make a financial donation to purchase treats.
  • Venmo @Pghlesbian CashApp $Pghlesbian Paypal.me/Pghlesbian
  • If you have a neighbor who feeds cats locally, drop off some items for them.

My trunk is filled with gently used cat items donated to help the same folks – cat tree, shelters, blankets, etc. Plus food. People drop off items at all-hours. We do not have storage, so finding creative and compact ways to support our caretakers is essential.

This stocking stuffer idea is sort of a last minute idea on my part when I realized I had personally run out of colony treats (up oh!) and had to toss them a handful of “other brand” cat food to distract them – it didn’t work. I immediately ordered treats from my phone. So that’s the genesis of the idea – stuff those stockings!
