How to Observe ‘Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents Day’ in Pittsburgh

They have spoken. Both Pittsburgh City Council and the City’s Mayor have issued proclamations declaring Tuesday, December 29, 2020 ‘Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents Day’ in honor of our 15th blogiversary.

I thought I should offer some advice on how to properly observe this occasion. You can go off-list if you like.

First, I suggest you dive into the archives and read some posts, both recent and long-ago. Pick a category or a keyword. Follow suggested posts. You have 5800 from which to chose. Type “Pride” or “Peduto” or “PFLAG” and see what you find.

Second, costuming is very important. Wear whatever you want, but do it with swagger. Flannels? Sweats? Heels and a pencil skirt? All good. All lesbian clothing.

Third, join a lesbian Facebook group based in PIttsburgh.

Fourth, help us rescue cats. Adopt a cat. Pet a cat.

Fifth, buy a facemask from a queer or queer friendly mask makers to celebrate our role as co-founder of the Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT. #MasqueUp to protect all the lesbians around you.

Sixth, are you #TeamHarper or #TeamRiley? Explain.

Seventh, dive into the #AMPLIFY archive. Over 300 first person Q&As about the LGBTQ experience in Western Pennsylvania.

Eight, join us on social media. I have a new personal goal to reach 9,000 followers on Twitter @pghlesbian24 in 2021. Just 502 followers to go.

Nine, support local queer artists who may or may not identify as lesbians, but are big fans of lesbians for sure.

Finally, the tenth way you can ohtbserve Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents Day in Pittsburgh is to become a sustain patron with a monthly investment of $1 or $5 or $10 via our Patreon.

Being a blogger is one of my greatest honors, but it is not an inexpensive endeavor nor a paying endeavor. We use ads and that does generate a portion of the money for our monthly webhosting fees. But the vast majority of our costs are paid out of my pocket. My source of income is my monthly SSDI check. So investing in our work is investing a lesbian led endeavor that strives to explore the region’s LGBTQIA+ experience through a lens that is intersectional, respectful, and sincere.
