Cat Lady Corner: A New Series by Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents – Meet Tango!

So the name of this new feature series is a work in progress, but you get the gist – cats. We have made a commitment to the local organization Pittsburght Cat Adoption Team (Pgh C.A.T.) to begin sharing a featured adoptable cat of the week. Ledcat and I are a Pittsburgh C.A.T. foster home – hence the #kittencaboodle that now occupy our (only) bathroom.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. is a local group who rescue stray or abandoned cats, foster them, and find them loving homes. They are not a shelter organization; they are a network of foster homes (like ours) with some available animals temporarily houses at local pet stores.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. covers all veterinary expenses of the fosters, including vaccinations and the spay/neuter as well as emergency care. They are a project of Homeless Cat Management Team and work with most local veterinarians as well. It is a well-oiled machine with lots of moving parts. For example, our ongoing Cat Food Drive is focused on food donations for colonies of feral cats. That is a HCMT project because they work with the feral cat colonies. Keeping those cats fed with nourishing food choices helps to keep them as healthy as possible and minimize the need to trap them to see a vet. The food is also useful to help trap neuter/spay and return (TNR) cats to their colonies. And when a pregnant cat shows up, the food is useful to keep her and her kits healthy while they are being trapped and moved into foster homes.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. works with the foster cats and kittens, both to get them ready for adoption and finding them homes.  As of the most recent county, Pittsburgh C.A.T. has nearly 200 kittens in foster homes right now. That doesn’t include adult cats, cats in respite care, and the potential thousands of kittens yet to come. They have run out of foster homes. Everyone’s spare spaces are crammed full of kittens. I know that we have zero room and will be struggling to manage the ferals we trap who need a calm quiet space for one night.

So we will continue to work on the food drive because that is a vital unmet need – food for feral cat colony caretakers. And we will start this feature to help anyone in search of a new companion to adopt. You can always find the current list of adoptees here.

More information on the Cat Food Drive can be found here.

This post has been updated to reflect that Pittsburgh C.A.T is a project of Homeless Cat Management Team and not an independent 501c3.

Meet Tango

Adult Female

Hello! My name is Tango, and I’m looking for my forever dance partner! I’m a lovely, long-legged lady with discerning taste looking for a human and cat family that I can boogie down with. I’m snuggly and affectionate with my family, but I’m definitely a wallflower at first. Thus, I would prefer to live with another cat, for how can I know if you’re a trustworthy partner if I can’t ask a fellow feline? Because I’m nervous in new situations, I will need an adopter who understands shy kitties and is willing to patiently introduce me to their home and earn my trust. But once you’ve learned to follow my lead, you’ll find out that I’m totally worth the wait because I’m a cuddle-buddy and purr-machine!
