The New Norm for Bloggers?

So this is almost the new norm for queer bloggers (and perhaps others as well?) I share original content on social media sites. Someone takes the time to set up a fake Reddit account and send me the attached message privately

“Kill yourself you fucking disgusting flaming faggot”

This is tied to an #AMPLIFY post. Just daring to amplify the stories of other LGBTQ people brings on this nastiness. And it isn’t something that I can just shrug off. It was sent to me, not left as a comment on the post. And this happens far, far more often now than it did when I began blogging in 2005. In fact, one reason I post this here in this space is to testify that the LGBTQ community are under greater attacks than in recent years.

There’s no need to leave a comment apologizing or offering me sympathy or outrage. I know you feel those things. I’m asking you to do something right now to bolster the LGBTQ community. Like a FB page, make a donation, sign up as a volunteer, read a newsletter or blog, sign a petition. Leave a comment saying what you are doing right now in this moment in response to this hate.

This is unacceptable, but so is turning away or shrugging it off. Neither I nor anyone deserves to be told to kill themselves. Ever.
