My (Honest and For True) Festivus Miracle

A few weeks ago, I posted a little challenge to ask people to send me a Christmas card and promising to donate $1 to Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ Community Center in exchange – to bolster their membership campaign.

It was a very off the cuff thing so I didn’t expect a huge response. We got about 20 cards at home and I’m waiting to see if any were sent to the Center.

But I also didn’t expect this from my friend Amy. Laura opened the cards (my hand tremors tend to turn envelopes into pulp with this task.) She brought me this note and had a huge grin on her face.

Hi Sue,

I know you are donated a $1 for every card you get so I thought I would give you a $1 to add to your donation.

I hope you, Ledcat and your family have a wonderful Christmas. I hope the New Year brings much happiness & joy.

Take care. Love, Amy

Amy is my oldest friend, back to when we were at least 4 if not younger. This is very much in keeping with her good heart, her wonderful approach to life and her kindness. Her kids hit the jackpot when it comes to parents! She’s most awesome and this truly lit up my whole holiday. Thank you, Amy.

Today is Festivus. I have few grievances to air and no plans to discuss wrestling. While our Christmas Tree is bare on the bottom third of its branches thanks to our cats “playful” nature, it sure looks great the rest of the way up – no poles here.

Happy Festivus. A Blessed Winter Solstice. And a Merry Christmas to all.

ps: any cards postmarked by Dec 31, 2013 will count to the donation challenge if you want to join in the fun!

  • I wish I would have come across your last post. I am a card maker by hobby and there is nothing I like better than a reason to send a card (especially for such a good cause!). Glad to see your childhood friend made your day. Wishing you the happiest of holidays.

    • Thank you Winnie. It is not too late … I’ll honor all cards postmarked by December 31. They can be sent to Sue Kerr c/o GLCC 210 Grant Street Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Thank you for your good wishes and the same to you.
