Pgh Lesbian Correspondents

I was a young girl of 8 when the Pittsburgh Pirates adopted the song “We Are Family” during their drive to win the World Series in 1979.  As a grown woman of 42 living in Pittsburgh, the song is permanently fused in my head as both an LGBTQ and sports champion anthem. Perhaps that’s fitting in a year when athletes are coming out and sports culture is starting to get tough on homophobia. Or that the Pittsburgh Pirates were the only Pgh team to make a video for “It Gets Better” in which they actually used the words lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. 

Or perhaps it is just fitting for a blog written by a lesbian based in Pittsburgh? Regardless, I’m gonna put that earworm in your head as you continue browsing the posts today! I’m blogging because We Are Family!
