World AIDS Day

Thursday, December 1, 2011 marks World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.

It boils down to this: learn the facts (they might be different than when you last looked), take action (protect your health or someone else’s health) and show your support for persons living with HIV and the research making it possible to keep them healthy.

You can wear a red ribbon and donate to an organization working on HIV prevention or care for those who are positive. Here in Pittsburgh there three significant organizations – Shepherd Wellness Center, Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force and Persad.

I’ve also found a list of events for the week at this Facebook site. There are some interesting things going on

Visit this page for the facts. Then take action.
