OUTrageous Bingo is Back, Yinz.

OUTrageous Bingo Coronavirus

One of my absolute favorite parts of the regional LGBTQ community is OUTrageous Bingo – a monthly gathering of about 500 people, queer and allies, in a synagogue social hall. I first went to bingo in the late 1990s when it was in the Strip District, crammed into a warehouse. Even growing up next to […]

OUTrageous Bingo Changes for Spring/Summer 2020 in response to Coronavirus

OUTrageous Bingo Coronavirus

I’ve reached out to several local LGBTQ organizations, requesting an update on how they are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. These include: Allies for Health + Wellbeing, Pittsburgh Center for Equality, Persad Center, PFLAG Pittsburgh, TransPride Pittsburgh, Proud Haven, OUTrageous Bingo, Shepherd Wellness Community, SisTers Pgh, and True T Pittsburgh. As I receive their responses, […]

Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ Community Center Renamed Pgh Equality Center

Big news in Pittsburgh – the organization we all know as the GLCC or the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh has officially changed its name to the Pittsburgh Equality Center. “When we looked at rebranding with a new name and logo, we were particularly mindful of the long history and the work of […]

Mayors Bill Peduto, Bill de Blasio Drop by OUTrageous Bingo UPDATED

OUTrageous Bingo Pittsburgh

The Mayor of New York City was campaigning for Katie McGinty and Hillary Clinton at gay bingo in Pittsburgh. As you can imagine, the crowd went wild. But when Mayor DeBlasio took a seat to call a game with an able assist from Peduto, I was charmed to hear the crowd yelling at him because he called too many ‘O’ numbers in a row and resisting his attempts to launch into a round of ‘Happy Birthday’ in the middle of the game. You come to bingo, you call bingo. LOL

Preview of the #WeAreFamily Video via GLCC and OUTrageous Bingo

I had this little idea last year – the opening of the OUTrageous Bingo season would coincide with the possible entry of the Pittsburgh Pirates into post-season playoffs. What better way to celebrate the awesome #WeAreFamily tee shirts designed exclusively for the GLCC by Commonwealth Press than to make a video? Great minds think alike […]

Here’s Why Keurig and Influenster Appreciate My Negative Review

bingo

My recent review of the Keurig 2.0 coffeemaker has drawn a range of responses (and visits from the Keurig PR machine.) I recognized that people will disagree with my assessment or that they have different priorities in terms of their coffee machines. But I was disappointed when another “Influenster“ (a reviewer through the website Influenster.com) […]

Pittsburgh Dad Makes First Reference to Gay Neighbors

I like Pittsburgh Dad. He rings true to me – this strange amalgam of adult men in my family and my friend’s fathers. Yep, he’s corny. Yep, he’s sometimes tries too hard. Yep, he’s a little too loose and easy with the insults of others. That’s what I mean – he sounds real to me. […]

I Owe Bill Peduto an Apology

Pittsburgh Pridefest

Last night, Bill Peduto made his first official Pridefest appearance as Mayor at OUTrageous Bingo. He came in looking very relaxed and comfortable in a blue bowling shirt and took the mike like a pro. He acknowledged the longevity and importance of Bingo, Shepherd Wellness and the Gay & Lesbian Community Center. He called a […]
