A friend of mine stepped up to run for office, specifically for a seat at the table of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee.  Amber is a powerful voice in the City, especially in her home neighborhood of Homewood. Read her AMPLIFY profile here We’ve been featuring candidates for various offices, but this is our first profile of someone running for Democratic committee. It is important to support LGBTQ, female, and Black voices at all decision-making tables.

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee is made up of local organizations operating in a largely independent fashion in each ward in the City of Pittsburgh and each municipality outside the city. These 2,600 committee members and 162 local committees are the grassroots of the Democratic Party, and they work each election to inform and turn out voters for Democratic endorsed candidates and Democratic Nominees.

You can find more information about the committee working in your community (district) by visiting the ACDC page.

How do you describe your identity? I am a Black woman who describes her identity as a lesbian woman!

You are running for Allegheny County Democratic Committee seat in the 12th ward, 15th district. Why is a seat at the table of the Democratic party important to you?

Since being released from my incarceration I wanted to know exactly what I can do to help In the betterment of my community as well as the city as a whole. As a engaged 12th ward resident, I’d like to continue serving so that I can do my part to ensure the priorities and values of my neighbors are reflected it the policies, endorsements, and political processes that I doubt Lay shape our communities, so that’s why it’s important for me to be at the table, as a Alleghany County committee member

For those who are not familiar, can you please describe the duties and obligations of a County committeemember?

We’re involved in the endorsements of the local parties who I (We) feel will do the job and not sell us out.
