Roots Pride Organizes Final Edition Weekend June 3 & 4

Roots Pride will host their final events this weekend to highlight the success of the past three years and the transformative power of resistance.

We hope to see everybody that worked so hard to make Roots Pride a reality and all those who will carry on the legacy of standing up for queer and trans folks in Pittsburgh. We envisioned Roots Pride as a catalyst for transformation. We are so proud to see the power of intention. Look around at all we have manifested together!! #PrideIsPolitical

Roots Pride is presented by True T Entertainment, Roots Pride, Garden of Peace Project and Sanctuary Pittsburgh.

I can’t say enough good things about Roots Pride. They tilted at an entrenched windmill and struck a serious, deafening blow to the foundation. Their courage and the sacrifices they made on personal levels to do this work run far deeper than most of us know. We rarely think about the pain people experience, the burden they bear when they speak up on behalf of all of us. We don’t consider the personal trauma, the lost time with children and family, the emotional toll, and the financial toll.

We don’t really say thank you or offer support. We make the same mistake as Delta, perhaps without callous deliberation, by failing to acknowledge the people who built our legacy of Pride. It isn’t just about fiscal sponsors and corporate sponsors and vendors. It is about human beings who transformed the world.

RootsPride is doing things differently.

We hope to see everybody that worked so hard to make Roots Pride a reality and all those who will carry on the legacy of standing up for queer and trans folks in Pittsburgh. We envisioned Roots Pride as a catalyst for transformation.

Speaking of carrying on the legacy (and revisiting the past), there are other significant Pride events that are not tied to EQT and Delta.

Saturday June 10 is the Smoke and Mirrors Art OUT Load crawl from 3 PM – midnight on Penn Avenue, sponsored by the GLCC of Pittsburgh.

Sunday June 11 is the Peoples Pride March 2K17 at 1 PM on Liberty Avenue.

I hope you will turn out this weekend to honor the important contributions of Roots Pride and celebrate what comes next.

It’s all about possibility.
