Cathy’s Closet Fundraiser to End

Dear friends,

Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to help raise a wee bit over $1,000 to launch this project. While we only reached 20% of the goal, that’s going to help a lot of people and your kindness is much appreciated. When I was a young adult and had my first exposure to a community center, I knew that was something I wanted to always do with my life.

I have decided to take a step back from the project and thus will end the fundraiser today. The GLCC will continue to use the concept to support their clients so you may donate products at any time to the GLCC. You can also make a direct financial donation to the GLCC for the project if you wish either via Paypal or by check. It is a real investment for the GLCC to continue this project without the addition 80% of the funding we needed. Don’t forget that – it says quite a bit about their commitment to the community.

I remain convinced that poverty in the LGBTQ community along with socioeconomic differences remains a tremendous barrier to equality. Working for equality requires that our friends and neighbors be able to get their basic needs met; affordable housing, living wages, healthcare, public transportation are all queer issues.

I also believe that starting with a tangible resource to provide immediate support by distributing personal care products is an excellent way to start/continue this dialogue and do something concrete to address the issue. My hope is that you will continue to support our neighbors and educate yourselves on the very real impact poverty has on our community.

Thank you for your support. If you have questions, please email me pghlesbian at gmail.
