Welcome To Pgh’s Newest LGBTQ Blog (and Revisiting a Few “Oldies”)

Good new for Pittsburgh – there’s a new blog in town. InsideOUT Pittsburgh bills itself as a “lifestyle and culture” blog covering the LGBT community.

This gave us a good reason to remind you of some of the other treasures in the Pittsburgh blogosphere

TransPride Logo

TransPridePgh has a blog and a very important component is the weekly “wrap-up” post of events and activities. If you know someone who identifies along the trans spectrum, please introduce them to this blog – it really is invaluable.

Queer and Brown in Steeltown is an excellent podcast with a blog. It is a great listen, a great read and important insight for all of us to try to absorb.

Queer is for the full spectrum of people that identify beyond the heteronormative gender binary, be they trans, lesbian, queer, gay, androgynous, AG, femme, butch, boi, maricon, fairy, or any of the other language we use to name ourselves (some of which we’re sure is being invented as we write this!).

Brown is for the full spectrum of folks that identify as people of color- it also happened to rhyme with Steeltown, which was convenient. We don’t pretend to be colorblind or post-racial. We don’t intend for the name to be an erasure of Blackness, nor are we ignorant of anti-Black sentiment that has been impressed upon non-Black people of color through generations of oppression.

Thomas C. Waters continues to offer a thoughtful look at news and politics along with an occasional essay. A good site for background and historical information as well as coverage of current events.

Some organizations and causes have their own blogs embedded into their websites. There are a handful of sites that have popped up over the years, but I just took a quick peek and they haven’t been updated in a while. It would be great to have even more emerge, but I’m pleased that among these five (including this one) there is quite an array of diverse voices.

It takes a lot of time and energy to sustain a blog (or a podcast or both) so I am glad to welcome InsideOUT to the burghosphere. I no longer maintain a blogroll, but I’m considering putting together a list of resources. Would that be useful?
